Dr. Linsey’s research focuses on design methods, design cognition and engineering education with a particular focus on innovation and design-by-analogy. Her research seeks to understand designers’ cognitive processes with the goal of creating better tools and approaches to enhance innovation. She has authored over fifty technical publications including five book chapters and she holds two patents. She is the principle investigator for multiple NSF grants on engineering education and design research. She holds a B.S.E. (University of Michigan), M.S. (University of Texas) and a Ph.D. (University of Texas) in mechanical engineering. She received the Frontiers in Education Conference 2009 New Faculty Fellow award, 2010 ASEE-ERM (Education Research Methods) Apprentice Faculty award and 2012 Ferdinand P. Beer and E. Russell Johnston, Jr., Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award.
