Grissom has been a proponent of active learning for over fifteen years including the use of cooperative learning, clickers and peer instruction. His most recent effort to promote awareness of innovative instructional practices is Guest Editor for a special issue of ACM Transactions on Computing Education to be published in 2013, Alternatives to Lecture in the Computer Science Classroom. He was named 2008 Michigan Professor of the Year partly due to his work in CS undergraduate education. As a former NSF program officer, Grissom supported dozens of university faculty with their CS education projects. He holds a degree in Architecture from Texas A&M University (1986) and Ph.D. in Computer Science from The Ohio State University (1992).
Joseph Tront

Dr. Tront’s research performs research projects on the effective use of education technology in the STEM learning environment. He also works in the area of cybersecurity where he endeavors to improve the privacy of network and wireless communications along with increasing the safety of mobile applications. He teaches courses on problem solving with programming languages, fundamentals of computer architecture, integrated circuit design, and low power digital design. He is currently Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech and the Director of Education for the Hume Center for National Security and Technology. He holds a B.S.E.E. and M.S.E.E. from the University of Dayton and a Ph.D. in E.E. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
